Enjoy Delicious Irish Food…
I’ve been a few times to Roundwood House in Co. Laois, where Paddy and Hannah, who live there with their two lovely children, make you feel so at home that it’s an actual physical wrench to drive away, and not just because Paddy cooks food that makes you want to cry with joy....

Welcome to the kitchen…
We believe that any holiday or celebration should revolve around good food. Our hope is that when re-visiting the memory of your stay here, your mouth waters. To that end, we take great care in preparing every meal. The choices we make on your behalf are informed by the seasons, our enthusiasm and Mick, our butcher.
The kitchen at Roundwood is like an engine, constantly humming away. From the moment weary travelers walk through the front door, they are greeted with the smell of stock bubbling, bread baking, and garlic. Always garlic.
Homemade…
Like most kitchens, ours is a popular spot. On cold days after school, the kids can be found hovering around the AGA to warm themselves, visiting friends & family prop themselves up at the end of the table, glass of wine in hand, & guests pop their heads around the door, more often than not falling down the step, to investigate the smell of stock, or bread that has been wafting through the house all day.
Such a wonderful, welcoming room demands to be used & so we oblige, by making everything ourselves. From the bread, yogurt, fruit compote & muesli served at breakfast, to the flapjacks on arrival, & the crackers served with your cheese course, everything is made in-house.
Bountifully blessed...
Every meal starts with a plan and every plan is informed by the ingredients around us. Roundwood is nestled in the heart of the midlands, & although the midlands mightn’t have great beaches, it does have more than its’ fair share of excellent food producers. These producers happily oblige us with grass fed lamb and beef, vegetables not long out of the ground, Irish artisan cheeses & organic oats, wheat and barley. Combining these fantastic ingredients with imagination, & influences from kitchens across the globe, has become our passion.
In a world driven by convenience & instant gratification, we feel proud to feel out of place. Nothing we do in our preparation for your dinner is convenient….but it is gratifying when a menu plan comes together.
Utter tranquility, inimitable original charm and a welcome as warm and inviting as an open fire after a Winter’s trek in the neighbouring Slieve Bloom mountains, combined with an exceptional culinary offering, Roundwood is a feast for the eyes and the (hungry) soul.
