Self Catering Cottages for Two in the Slieve Bloom
We stayed at the forge. It was magical. We kept the fire lit, listened to the rain come down outside, made friends with the cats and dogs, had morning walks around the house and enjoyed the stunning views of the countryside. There's a library that's everything you could ever imagine it to be, at least for a person who is ever so fascinated by different cultures around the world. We were taken care of in a way that we had never experienced before. It was warm and wonderful..

The Forge
A beautiful open plan, split-level apartment occupies what used to be the old Forge at Roundwood House. It has a double bed on a mezzanine and, if a second bed is required, there is a pull-out sofa in the sitting room. Filled with books and paintings and set in 18 acres of park and woodland, the Forge is a perfect secluded escape, or a great base for exploring the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Looped walks, mountain bike trails, horseback riding and fishing are all available locally.
The Forge is comfortable and spacious with a wood burning stove, fully fitted kitchen, washing machine, television and WiFi.

The Writer’s Cottage
The Writer's Cottage is a tiny old stone cottage for two, tucked away in the corner of the Kitchen Garden at Roundwood. It sits under a giant oak tree and provides a complete escape from the hustle and bustle of modern living. If room to swing a cat is a priority, then the Writer's Cottage is probably not for you. However, if romantic, secluded, quaint and a breath of fresh air is what you’re looking for, you’ll love it!
The Writer's Cottage has a wood burning stove. There is a kitchenette with a 2 ring hob, mini convection oven, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge. There is no washing machine, but a laundry service is available upon request. WiFi is also available.

Extra Information
- Linen, towels, toiletries and hairdryer are provided.
- Due to space limitations in the dining room, dinner and breakfast in the Main House are not always available to guests staying in the Forge and Writer's Cottage. However, if interested, it's always worth asking on arrival if there are any available spots.
- The nearest supermarket is 5km away.
- Our beautiful Library, situated in the old Coach House, is open to guests staying in our cottages.
- Both cottages are pet friendly but dogs must be kept on a lead outside as we have lots of tasty-looking ducks and hens scratching around the garden.
- Firewood is provided for the first day of your stay and can be purchased from us, or in the local town, thereafter.
- Unfortunately neither the Forge or Writer's Cottage are baby or toddler friendly.
This is the most amazing little cottage on an absolutely incredible estate! We came on our honeymoon and the service, location and hospitality were second to none. We would recommend you stay here in a heartbeat! You should know the cottage is cosy but we loved that! It was like stepping back in time. Make sure you take time to explore the grounds and have dinner in the Main House. The Library is also not to be missed! Hannah will have lots of tips to help you plan your adventures in the surrounding countryside. We cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you Hannah and Paddy for an incredible visit and a taste of authentic Irish hospitality! 🙂
