Our stay was perfect from start to finish, as we were warmly welcomed and treated like special guests throughout our stay. We decided to have dinner on our second night and it was nothing short of fabulous. Breakfast was amazing, too and all dietary requirements were carefully acknowledged. The grounds are a beautiful place for a walk amongst ancient trees and exploring farm buildings. Our room (the green one) was beautifully decorated and had lovely views of the garden. We had the most delicious biscuits with tea each day and relaxed by the fire in the evening. Highly recommended for a special occasion or even just to treat yourself. We can't wait to go back! read less - 31/12/22Niamh M.

Our family spent 3 days at Roundwood House as a part of our celebration of my wife's 70th birthday. Our hosts, Paddy and Hannah, were amazing! Attentive, welcoming, and a wonderful addition to our family celebration. The mansion and grounds were remarkable, and steeped in the history and lore of Ireland. Paddy was the lead chef (with Ted as his assistant) and the 5-course meal he prepared for my wife's birthday dinner was FANTASTIC! We all agreed that it was among the best we've ever had anywhere. Too many wonderful moments to mention them all, but I will add that when my stepsons, my son-in-law, and I caught fresh trout in a nearby lake. Paddy prepared one of the trout (filleted) in a lemon, butter, and wine sauce that was exceptional. 3 hours from lake to table! If you want a true experience that immerses you into the landscape and warmth of rural Ireland, spend a few days with Hannah and Paddy in their wonderful home. And did I mention the fantastic food? You won't be disappointed! read less - 04/06/19Caroline C.

Dream wedding - small group (~15 total), intimate dinner party feel with a wedding ceremony in the middle, in beautiful historical Irish home. Enter - Roundwood House. We booked the property for the whole weekend for our entire guest list, arriving Friday and leaving Sunday. The house is absolutely beautiful, full of character, cozy rooms (all en suite), and decorated with pieces you could spend a day looking at. The grounds are magical and make for a lovely morning walk and the most romantic photographs. Not to mention the hospitality! Everyone who works here is so kind and personable; we never once felt like we were not welcome or imposing, the staff was attentive but also let us have our space. And the food! Oh. My. God. Every single thing we ate was absolutely delicious. The food was inspired, fresh, and comforting. One of our friends has a few severe food allergies (gluten, dairy, and nuts) and they were so accommodating to her - even running out in the morning to get additional ingredients so she could enjoy toast with her breakfast. Name another bed & breakfast owner who would do that? I’ll wait.Honestly, the overall atmosphere Hannah and Paddy have created here is just beyond compare. We just needed somewhere totally relax after a hectic Christmas and Roundwood was perfect. Hannah and Paddy and their staff are among the most genuine and accommodating hosts we have encountered, their lovely daughters Amelie and Lucie were a huge hit with our twins. I felt comfortable wandering in and out of the kitchen to prepare bottles and food for the twins, hannah encouraged us to use a playroom with safety gate at the top of house whenever we chose and we spent the majority of our stay in relaxing in front of the open fire in the drawing room. The food that Paddy cooked was delicious and varied with a great wine selection...and it seemed plenty of other types of drink on request! Guests had the opportunity to either eat in the drawing room in front of the fire, in the dining room or in the more intimate setting of the library - we chose the fire in the drawing room every time but we still mingled with the other guests at breakfast in the dining room in the mornings....best of both worlds! One of the highlights, and there were many, was my birthday cake and song delivered by a guitar playing Paddy with Hannah and their two lovely daughters singing accompaniment - it certainly took the heat off my tone deaf husband and was a lovely touch. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in this charming house again. read less - 01/11/16Rebecca M.

It's near the very walkable Slieve Bloom mountains. The 18th century house and vast grounds are full of charm and history. The rooms are cozy and quiet with bookshelves full of classics for reading in front of the fireplace. Upon our arrival we had tea by the fire. I can't say enough about the dinner prepared by the owner, Paddy. Beautiful local meats and vegetables perfectly cooked and presented in an elegant dining room. After the meal, we shared an animated conversation with Hannah and Paddy - they are the heart and soul of Roundwood House! The next day, the delicious food kept coming with freshly made yogurt, oatcakes and any form of breakfast we asked for. It was a perfect and memorable stay. read less - 01/11/16Harry G.

For us, the answer as regards our stay at Roundwood House is unreservedly "Yes"!Although we only stayed one night, we still talk about our experience, weeks after our stay.We had been touring Ireland for some 10 days and Roundwood House was our last night's stop. We had stayed at 4 other hotels during our travels (including a 4 night stay in Dublin) and, although other hotels had various unique attractions (location, accommodation, etc.), Roundwood House brought together all the individual things we loved about being in Ireland. We're not great fans of "communal" dining but, on this occasion, we had an excellent rapport with a Dutch couple (who lived in Belgium and, fortunately, spoke excellent English!) and shared experiences of our various travels. This, together with the chance to chat with Hannah and Paddy at various stages during the evening, made for an enjoyable and relaxing evening. We voted dinner the best we'd had in all our stays in Ireland - it was simply delicious, well paced and with some great wine options. Breakfast, too, offered a wide selection including our 10th (and final) full Irish cooked breakfast with the added choice of hen or duck eggs!If you're looking for boringly, faultless luxury then, maybe, Roundwood isn't for you but if you appreciate a warm welcome, genuine and relaxed hospitality, excellent food and a charming (and characterful) atmosphere then Roundwood certainly takes some beating. Every room and corner holds something interesting and you can while away hours curled up by a fire with a book or newspaper listening to the sounds of the house. This house is a home and you are welcomed as a guest, in the oldest sense of that ancient and sacred tradition. The family and the staff are friendly, attentive and kind and you’re likely to swap stories with the most interesting of fellow guests. If you read about this place in a novel you wouldn’t believe it; it’s like I Capture the Castle meets Mansfield Park. This is our first visit since we held our wedding ceremony and celebration there 4 years ago and we’ll be back as often as we can ♥️ read less - 01/11/19Eamon O.

I can genuinely say I had one of the best and most relaxing holidays I've ever been on! Hannah, Paddy and all at Roundwood have done a stellar job of creating a great, warm and relaxing atmosphere at Roundwood. The cottage itself was very cosy with lovely views of the neighbouring fields and grounds and had all the utilities one would expect in self-catering accommodation. I was lucky enough to get a tour of the house also which was fantastic to see and fascinating to hear about it's rich history. As there were no guests staying at the time (the house was briefly closed after a very busy St Patrick's Day weekend) I was able to see the house accommodation also and would definitely recommend a stay in any of the rooms too - all were beautifully decorated, spacious and en-suite. Hannah and Paddy were warm and welcoming and made us feel at home. In fact we felt so much at home that everyone instantly relaxed and we more or less took over the house! The children (of which there were five ranging from 18 months to 8 years) loved exploring the house and beautiful grounds and playing with the animals - dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, hens and there were even bee hives! We had tea and coffee and yummy flap jacks on arrival and after Hannah showed us around the beautifully kept old estate house we gathered in the sitting room to begin a mammoth catch up. We had a drinks reception before dinner in the library which was in a converted barn.Hannah and Paddy's two lovely daughters guided us to the library, another lovely space, and after a drink we sat down to a delicious 6 course dinner back in the main house. Paddy had carefully checked in advance to see if there was anything the group didn't eat and the food all tasted fantastic. Paddy was also able to tell us where he had sourced his produce and he managed to settle a family dinner-time debate (of which there are many) using the powers of Google. It was really nice that both Hannah and Paddy served us at dinner adding to the homely and intimate feel of our stay.We retired to the sitting room once again after dinner and the children ran riot for about an hour before going to bed. Our daughter is 18 months and we were able to use the baby monitor instead of one of us having to stay in the room with her which was great. A night of stories and laughter ensued. Hannah and Paddy were attentive and kept the drinks flowing without being intrusive in any way on our special family occasion.Breakfast the next morning was cooked to order and again delicious and we all agreed that the previous night had been the best family catch up that we had had in a very long time.Roundwood House offers a different experience. We felt welcomed into this family's home, we were fed delicious locally sourced food and we had every need taken care of. Hannah, Paddy and their two girls were friendly and engaged with all of us, always checking to see if we needed anything. You can see how much they love their home and what they do. You would happily pay double the price.Secondly, the service is just amazing. Hannah and paddy make you feel so welcome. As do their lovely girls and staff. They are all so genuine and nice.Third this hotel is made for social distancing (you can even be 2 m’s apart on the stairs) and they mange it so well. We had our dinner Alone in the most splendid room.Fourth, everything is so local and carefully thought through they clearly love the place and their jobs. read less - 01/08/20Hotels.com r.

So peaceful-the only noise is the birds singing! You can stroll around the house, which is in the middle of the countryside, and see the donkeys or go for a longer walk in the Sliabh Bloom mountains, which are only a short drive away. Or just chill out in the stunning library if its raining. The food is absolutely delicious. Hannah and Paddy are the best hosts. Nicest place I've stayed in a long time! read less - 16/01/17Emma B.

Our 5 course evening meal was absolutely stunning. Every course and every bite was delicious. You could be mistaken for thinking you were eating Michelin Star food. Simple, fresh ingredients made into something amazing. Our hosts Hannah and Paddy, such lovely people. So warm and welcoming. We had such a lovely time from the moment we parked the car. After being shown to our room we were invited to go to the garden for coffee and homemade flapjacks. Such a treat! We met Tuba the cat and enjoyed watching the ducks and dogs wandering around the grounds. We relaxed in our room until it was time for our light supper of soup, cheese and dessert. The food was so, so good! We had the drawing room to ourselves and read our books in front of the fire. Such a relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast was equally delicious and the coffee was excellent. While planning our trip in May 2015, we were simultaneously searching for our long lost Irish relatives who live in Mountrath so that we could reconnect with them while vacationing in Ireland. We were having a tough time finding any information. I had just made reservations with Hannah at Roundwood House, based on the good reviews we saw online. We wanted to stay somewhere special and Roundwood House looked to be just the type of place we were looking for. Then it occurred to me to ask Hannah if she could find any information on our family that lives in Mountrath. I provided a few names and Hannah asked one of her employees. The next day, I received a Facebook friend request from one of our cousins!!! From there, we were able to get in touch with all the family we had been looking for prior to our travel from the US! Thanks to Hannah for making our stay EXTRA special because we were able to spend precious time with our Irish family both in Dublin and Mountrath. Our family invited us over for a meal at their Mountrath home. At our (last minute) request, Hannah and Paddy were so kind to make two lovely Guinness cakes for a reasonable price to bring to the family dinner. The Guinness cake was all the rave! Oh, and the house is so charming and breakfast was delicious! Hannah and Paddy are wonderful hosts and their darling girls are equally kind. My kiddos had so much fun playing with their sweet girls!! My husband and I are already beginning to plan our next summer trip to Ireland to spend more time with family and escape the Houston, TX heat. We will be staying at Roundwood House again, for sure! read less - 01/11/16Randall &.

We rented The Forge cottage as we wanted to bring our two dogs along. What a quaint little split level cottage it was. We had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Hannah, Paddy, Amelie and Lucie were exceptional hosts, very warm and welcoming and have many fun and interesting stories to tell about their home. They ooze passion. We were lucky to dine in the house one of the evenings and oh my the food was incredible. We thoroughly enjoyed walking the well laid out parameter of the house (and so did the dogs).
