Breakfast At Roundwood

Breakfast at Roundwood was nothing less than excellent, with a selection of food on offer far beyond my needs at the start of a day. I largely satisfied myself with a bowl of delectable homemade yoghurt and a seemingly endless supply of first-class coffee.

Love Breakfast...

Often said to be the “most important meal of the day”, breakfast arrives with some heavy expectations, & although the expression was actually coined by Kellogg’s as a marketing ploy in the late 19th century, there really is no denying that breakfast is pretty great.

We source our breakfast ingredients as close to home as possible. Our sausages & bacon come from Mick, our butcher; our puddings from Inch House in Tipperary; eggs come from both our own hens & Granstown Farm, a local, family-run, free range egg operation (we also have our own duck eggs, just ask!); our smoked trout is from Goatsbridge Farm in Kilkenny.  The bread, griddle scones, marmalade, yogurt & just about anything we can, we make.

Breakfast Menu...

Breakfast starts with a little pot of Merry Mill Overnight Oats served with Seasonal Fruit Compote, Natural Yogurt, and Granola (all homemade).

For the main event there are four options, all of which are served with Coffee or Tea, Griddle Scones, Sourdough Toast (Paddy's pride and joy), Local Honey & Homemade Jams and Marmalade.

Option 1 - Full Irish: Egg, Rasher, Sausages, Black Pudding, White Pudding (all sourced from our local butcher) and Sautéed Cherry Tomatoes

Option 2 - Vegetarian: Egg, Homemade Spicy Beans, Local Cheese, Fried Mushrooms and Sautéed Cherry Tomatoes

Option 3 - Fish: Hot Smoked Organic Rainbow Trout from Goatsbridge Farm in Kilkenny, Egg, Spinach & Lentil Dahl and Sautéed Cherry Tomatoes

Option 4: Porridge Made with Merry Mill Organic Gluten-Free Oats served with Homemade Yogurt and Seasonal Fruits

Breakfast is served until 11am every day

Award Winning…

Every year the Georgina Campbell Breakfast Awards, held in association with Fáilte Ireland, honour Ireland’s best breakfasts.

Winners are chosen by incognito inspectors and celebrate "the people who strive to make the first meal of the day a particularly special experience for visitors & regulars alike", Campbell says.

We were delighted when Roundwood was “Highly Commended” in the Country House category in 2017.

The breakfast was probably the best we have experienced in many years at any hotel or B&B anywhere... It was healthy, locally crafted and delicious.
